As the impact of various unethical business conduct began to unfold in the 2000s, particularly with the occurrence of notorious corporate scandals and the global financial crisis, some of the responsibility was directed toward business management education.

Consequently, many business schools and universities began to reflect on their role in business and society and some experienced a shift towards responsible management education. In 2007, the United Nations Global Compact launched the United Nations-supported Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) and in the last decade a major shift is occurring, in business management education and its role in developing responsible leadership.

Prof Debbie Haski-Leventhal, a scholar of CSR and responsible management education, has been conducting studies with PRME on business students’ attitudes on CSR and responsible management education. She will discuss the role of business schools in society, the movement towards purpose and responsibility, and the voice of the students in this emerging discourse.
