Members' General Meeting 2008 |
 |
The General Meeting of members of the Association of MBAs took place on 13 November 2008 at The Hatton in London.
This was an occasion for attendees to find out the names of the two members elected to the International Management Board (IMB), following the general election open to all graduate members. They are Hilary Sears, the current Chair of the Board, who will be retaining her position after re-election, and Carol Groombridge, also the Regional Chair for the North East, who is a new addition to the Board. Congratulations to them both! Steve Gorton, current Chair of Regional Chairs, has also been co-opted onto the Board for a one year term.

We are very sad to see two members of the IMB - Katie Porkess and Matt Watts - step down as they come to the end of their term of office. Many thanks for all their input and activity on the Board.

The Association's President, Sir Paul Judge
took this opportunity to address the audience of members, discussing
the developments which the Association has undertaken this year. He touched on the increasing number of accredited schools and the successful
conference held in Lisbon this spring. He also mentioned that
with the world in the middle of turbulent times and the economic
downturn, the Association is still in a resilient position. When the world economy
deteriorates, the popularity of MBA study increases. Sir Paul concluded that
we are living through interesting times and the Association is well
placed and ready to provide support services to our members, employers
and business schools through challenging periods ahead.
Hilary Sears, Chair of the International Management Board, also gave a presentation on the day. She spoke about developments in the MBA market, MBA recruitment trends and today's global market. She pointed out that 'the global market has changed in the last ten years, but the qualification is still a mark of quality and is still very much sought after. It remains a relevant and doable qualification.'
The General Meeting of the Members of the Association of MBAs is organised as an annual event and is open to all our members. The next meeting will be organised in the last quarter of 2009 and all members will be notified in due course.
